Deserti di pietra

The series portrays some of the most famous squares in Italy and investigates about their change of function. They were meant to be a gathering point for citizens, and are now the melting pot for tourists.

 

I explore these two perspectives playing with these squares. Their image is reflected speculatively establishing a dialogue between the historical setting and the contemporary function. The interlocutors enter into this dialogue where memories of the place conflict with the present.

 

These images are synecdoche of contemporary mankind. We are social animals only when we interact in private spaces and through social networks, the public squares do not mean anything else than just a site to visit.
